PORT WASHINGTON, WI – (October 31, 2025) – The City of Port Washington is proud to announce the completion of restoration work on the historic Port Washington Breakwater Lighthouse, a beloved symbol of the City’s maritime heritage and community spirit. By the end of the day, the fence blocking access to the breakwater will be removed.
“This project has been years in the making and represents a remarkable collaboration between local partners, preservation experts, and the Port Washington community,” said Mayor Neitzke. “The lighthouse is more than a landmark — it is a reflection of who we are as a city: resilient, forward-looking, and deeply connected to our waterfront.”
The City would like to extend its deepest thanks to Rob Vanden Noven, Director of Public Works, for securing the TAP grant, and to Roger Strohm, City Engineer, for overseeing the project from planning through completion. Their efforts were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition. The City also recognizes and sincerely appreciates the support of Governor Tony Evers, whose commitment to infrastructure and historic preservation helped make this restoration possible.
City Administrator Melissa Gossett noted, “Our lighthouse is a point of pride not only for residents but also for visitors who travel from across the region to experience Port Washington’s charm. Completing this project is a powerful example of how public investment in heritage infrastructure strengthens both our identity and our local economy.”
A community ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony is set for Wednesday, November 5th at 3:00PM, inviting residents, volunteers, and project partners to celebrate the lighthouse’s new chapter together.
