City of Port Washington Names Combined Water and Wastewater Superintendent

On August 25, 2025, the City of Port Washington Personnel Committee approved the recommendation to combine the Water Utility Superintendent and Wastewater Superintendent roles. This organizational change is intended to streamline operations, enhance training opportunities, and further build and support employee growth.

We are pleased to announce, effective as of Monday, September 1, 2025, Dan Fisher has been appointed as the Water Utility and Wastewater Superintendent.

Dan has served as the Water Utility Superintendent for the City of Port Washington for the past three years, during which time he has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and a strong commitment to operational excellence. Under his guidance, the Water Utility department has seen significant operational improvements and has grown as a cohesive and high-performing team, reflecting both his expertise and proactive approach to management.

Prior to joining the City of Port Washington, Dan accumulated several years of experience in municipal water systems. After the recent Wastewater Superintendent retirement, Dan’s commitment, knowledge, and leadership skills became the clear choice to assume a combined role and ensure the continuation and enhancements of both Water Utility and Wastewater.

Mission Statement

The City of Port Washington Water Utility provides clean, safe water to visitors, businesses, and all residents. To serve this customer base, the Utility manages and operates approximately 60 miles of water main and approximately 650 hydrants. The Water Utility maintains and operates a surface water treatment plant, which produces an average of 1.16 million gallons of drinking water per day (MGD), with a total capacity of 4 MGD. The Utility also maintains three elevated storage towers, and three booster stations. The Water Utility is led by the Water Utility Superintendent.

Programs/Service Lines

  • Water Treatment Plant Operators maintain the Water Treatment Plant across three shifts, every day of the year. The treatment plant supplies potable water to the Distribution System, which includes:
    • Three Booster Stations
    • Three Water Towers
    • Over 650 Fire Hydrants
    • 5,000 Services & Water Meters
    • Approximately 60 Miles of Water Main
  • Maintain a certified laboratory that complies with Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Division of Food Safety and Recreational Safety (WDATCP), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) rules and regulations.
  • Perform thousands of analyses per year of raw and tap water including Turbidity, Coliform Bacteria, E-Coli, Chlorine, Fluoride, Phosphate, pH, Hardness, Alkalinity, Total Organic Carbon, & Disinfection Byproducts.
  • Test and install new water meters in all new residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
  • Manually read over 2,000 water meters throughout the City on a bimonthly schedule.
  • Repair an average of 14 water main and public/private service breaks throughout the year.
  • Repair or replace fire hydrants, main line, service line and hydrant valves on an emergency and non-emergency basis.
  • Respond to all customer concerns and needs in a timely manner.
