Here's what homeowners can do to protect themselves: Insist on permits! It simply doesn't pay to cut corners when it comes to your biggest financial asset - your home.

For the  homeowner or  residential  contractor this  site is  intended  to provide a  starting  place  for information  and  answers  to  questions  such  as, do I need a permit or what will  the permit cost? Additionally you will find information on common  residential  construction  projects and zoning concerns.  Please see the Resources section to the right for more information.

For  the  commercial  contractor  or  property owner we have made  available information on permit requirements,  fees, and  forms  as  well  as links to various construction and zoning codes.

Mission Statement

The Building Inspection Department issues all permits required under the provisions of the electrical, plumbing and building codes of the City. Permitted work is inspected to ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local codes, ordinances, and requirements. This department is supervised by the Director of Inspection and Zoning Code Enforcement Officer who shall supervise the electrical, plumbing and building inspectors, under the direction of the City Administrator.

Programs/Service Lines

  • Review plans and issue all construction related permits.
  • Collect permit fees.
  • Inspect and enforce local, state, and national construction codes.
  • Inspect and enforce local property maintenance codes.
  • Investigate and respond to resident’s complaints.
  • Schedule and conduct annual liquor license inspections.
  • Provide information to residents, contractors, and designers.
  • Maintain records related to building construction.

Strategic Plan - Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)

  • Total number of permits issued indicates the amount of construction and growth occurring in the city.
  • Total Permit Revenue, the total dollar amount the city brings in from building permits, violations, and lien settlement requests.
