December 19, 2024 - A message from Port Washington Police Department:
Unfortunately with the snow already falling in Port Washington we will have to suspend our blanket permission of parking overnight on the streets for tonight. We ask that everyone make an effort to get all of their vehicles in the garages or driveways so that our street department can do effectively clear the streets during the snowfall.
We will see how things look tomorrow and if everything is cleaned up, we
will go back to allowing people to park their vehicles in the road for the holidays.
December 10, 2024 - The Port Washington Police Department provided the following message:
In the Christmas spirit, the Port Washington Police Department will be granting blanket permission to park on the street overnight now through January 2nd. There is no need to call in your vehicles during this time. If there is significant snowfall expected, we will create a post on this page and vehicles will need to be removed from the streets.
November 26, 2024 - The Port Washington Police Department provided the following message:
Winter Parking Restrictions go into effect this Sunday, December 1st and continue through April 1st. During this time there is NO PARKING ON ANY STREET from 2 a.m. - 6 a.m. Vehicles parked on the streets overnight are subjected to a $25.00 parking ticket that will increase if not paid on time. Permissions to park can be taken on a nightly basis, if no inclement weather is expected, by contacting the Port Washington Police Department at 262-284-2611.
Common parking questions/statements:
1."I did not see a sign stating no parking." This is an annual ordinance that is put in place. Signs are posted at all roadways coming into the city limits of Port Washington, as provided in § 349.13, Wis. Stats.
2. "Why didn't I receive a warning?" Warnings are placed on vehicles as a “blanket warning” in the days before restrictions go into effect. The Port Washington PD does not issue parking tickets based on who the vehicle owner and/or vehicles identification is but by what vehicle is currently in violation of the ordinance.
3. "I have a guest/family member staying overnight." Our department takes permissions to park on a nightly basis. Contact our department at 262-284-2611 with a vehicle description, plate number, and contact person/phone number. We log this information to be available for our officers each evening.
4. "No other vehicles were ticketed." This is a common misconception, as vehicles may have called for permission to park or have already removed their citation from the vehicle.
5. "I have been drinking, did you want me to drive?" No, absolutely not. In this case our department can be contacted for a permission to park your vehicle overnight.
6. "Other agencies have a forgiveness program, i.e. donating to reduce cost.” We commend these agencies for their efforts, unfortunately we do not have any programs similar to this.
7. "It's not even snowing." We understand that this can be frustrating but maintain that this is an annual ordinance that has been put in place by our City. We may, weather permitting, suspend restrictions around the holidays and in the spring nearing the end of the ordinance season.
8. "I called my vehicle in and still received a parking ticket." We realize that communications can cross from time to time and errors may occur. Do not hesitate to call our department during business hours to have this looked into.
Please plan your arrangements between now and Sunday to ensure you have adequate parking for this upcoming winter season.
