FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PORT WASHINGTON, WI – (October 9, 2024) – The City of Port Washington is very excited to announce the award of a $1,093,348 grant to the W.J. Niederkorn Library through the Wisconsin Department of Administration’s (DOA) Flexible Facilities Program (FFP). As a result of this grant, the library will be able to make several technology and floor plan improvements, which are expected to be completed by October 2026.
Built in 1960 and last updated in 2001, the W.J. Niederkorn Library will now see an expansion of existing library space to accommodate two new study rooms, a small group room, and a new service desk all on the main level. A children’s bathroom will be added near the children’s area, and the lower-level bathrooms will be remodeled. Furthermore, high-speed internet will be enhanced to directly impact work, education, and healthcare needs, and more outlets in public seating, laptops to loan and use for classes, Wi-Fi hotspots, and a large charging station will be made available.
“We are thrilled to receive this generous grant, which will significantly enhance the services and facilities we offer to our community,” shared Tom Carson, Director of the W.J. Niederkorn Library. “These improvements will create a more accessible and modern space for patrons of all ages, fostering learning, collaboration, and connection. We look forward to transforming our library into a hub that meets the evolving needs of Port Washington.”
